I Stayed in Wealthy Affiliate Since 2016: Was It Worth It?

First of all, this review is NOT AI written; this is my real experience with Wealthy Affiliate.

I have been a member since 2016.

Here is the proof.

So today's date, as I am writing this, is 22th February 2026.

It's been 10 years since I became a Wealthy Affiliate member.

Was it worth it?

Should you join Wealthy Affiliate?

Can you still make money with them in 2026?

I'm sharing here the good, bad and ugly...

Why I Joined Wealthy Affiliate in the First Place

23 October 2016, that was the exact date when I joined Wealthy Affiliate.

I was a total beginner, with no experience whatsoever in making money online, affiliate marketing, WordPress, or SEO.

I came into Wealthy Affiliate with NO prior experience.

Life was hard, and I had to find something to bring in some extra cash.

I wasted a lot of time with survey apps that pay you to answer basic questions or to watch video sites.

I was earning pennies.

Before coming across Wealthy Affiliate.

I was interested in joining an app that pays you to watch music.

 This YouTuber was talking highly of it, and she was recommending that you give it a try.

I looked up a review about it and realized it was a scam, then I was suggested to join Wealthy Affiliate.

It was free to try, so I had nothing to lose, and I joined.

My First Months: The Part Nobody Talks About

Back in the day, in 2016, when I first joined Wealthy Affiliate, the training structure was a bit different than now.

The first course was about:

1.  choosing a niche (topic) that you are passionate about
2. creating a website
3. optimizing it to drive traffic from search engines and social media,
4. then monetizing it with ads or affiliate offers.

The second one was the same process, except it focused solely on promoting Wealthy Affiliate.

To be honest with you, Kyle, the co-founder of Wealthy Affiliate, I noticed him in the training videos trying to push you to promote Wealthy Affiliate.

That would make sense because if you promote Wealthy Affiliate versus a random affiliate program like Amazon Associates.

 Kyle and his partner, Carson, would make more money.

When I joined, I was confused about what I was passionate about.

 So I decided to follow the bootcamp course to learn how to create a site to promote Wealthy Affiliate.

After a few months of following the training, my site was born on January 11, 2017; you can see that in the screenshot below.

I created the site and started writing content for it.

There was no ChatGPT or Claude; you had to write the content yourself, just like how I am doing now with this specific article.

The training taught me how to use Jaaxy (a keyword research tool).

Basically, this tool lets you see what other people on Google and Bing are typing to find things.

For example, you typed a keyword related to Wealthy Affiliate or a similar product for making money online, and then you found my link on Google or Bing.

That's the concept.

After you find good keywords, you have to write or get AI to write content optimized for the keywords that Jaaxy helped you find.

The more keywords you write about, the more your articles will get indexed and ranked in the search engines.

Obviously, I have made the process look simple, but it's not easy.

You will need time and patience for Google to trust your site that will be constantly producing content. 

If it does, you will be earning traffic that you can monetize, so you can earn an income.

So here is an overview of the process:

It's the same concept when you start a YouTube channel, you keep uploading, and if you do a good job, views will start coming in.

It's not easy, but it's simple.

All you have to do is stick to the basics and keep doing the boring work that nobody wants to do to succeed.

Month #1 Using Wealthy Affiliate Training & Tools

1 Month later, after building my site, I was able to:

1. Publish 22 posts
2. 4 pages
3. Have all my posts indexed and ranked on the search engines
4. Started getting traffic
5. Receive 364 comments

Month #2 My Website Traffic is Growing

I kept writing more articles and published 52 in the second month.

My traffic started growing steadily.

These days were the best of my life. I realized that the training at Wealthy Affiliate does work, but only if you actually put in the work.

Just dreaming about living the laptop lifestyle is unfortunately not enough; you need to consume the training and put it to the grind day in and day out.

If making money with Wealthy Affiliate or any platform was easy everyone will be doing it, this is simple logic that unfortunately most people ignore.

So after my traffic went up, the fun part came: making money.

Below, I'm going to share with you how Wealthy Affiliate helped me make money online and actually build an online business and fully work from home.

When I Finally Started Money with Wealthy Affiliate

I remember Kyle's video lessons like yesterday.

I remember when I used to say over and over, if you make your first sale.

You can make thousands.

Just make that first sale, and things will go well for you.

My traffic skyrocketed, as shown above, and I eventually made 6 sales in one day.

That was a record for me; I was jumping with happiness, truly living my best days.

It was not easy; there was a lot of frustration, pain, and patience before things started working out, but man, it was so worth it.

I was so motivated, I stuck around and kept doing the work, and then I made my first serious payday.

Yes, after one year of:

• Self doubt
• Hard work
• Patience
• Sleepless nights
• Frustration
• Low motivation
• Constantly on the edge of quitting
• I was able to make my first $2,233 a month!

I kept working, and my traffic was just growing.

Then, within the Wealthy Affiliate community, I was recommended to hire a virtual assistant to help with the content.

That was one of the best decisions I made, as it helped me relax a bit while my site was still working for me.

Eventually, I would make way more money.

So clearly, if you put in the work, the training at Wealthy Affiliate will help you make money.

Now I want to show you something even more incredible!

My Results After Using Wealthy Affiliate Long Term

I have been making some serious monthly income thanks to Wealthy Affiliate.

Wealthy Affiliate offered me:

• Training
• Hosting
• Domain registrar
• Technical support
• Live chat (where I met new online buddies)
• websites and other tools
• A big community that changed my life.

There was this guy I met in Wealthy Affiliate. His name is John, and he is from Sweden.

I am still in contact with him.

I was doing well thanks to Wealthy Affiliate, and he was doing even better, having joined a few years before me.

We stayed in touch, and one day he invited me to work on a niche that is very profitable, where he was making so much money.

It was the Gold IRA niche.

Basically, in this niche, my friend had a website where he was affiliated with some gold and precious metals companies.

If you could bring a client to one of these companies, and he simply calls them and tells them, " Yes, I might invest with you.

So my friend John, whom I met in Wealthy Affiliate, told me to create a website to promote gold IRA companies.

So I had to put into practice what Wealthy Affiliate taught me:

1. Create Content based on Keywords people type on Google & Bing.
2. Optimize the content so search engines can trust it, index it, and rank it.
3. Monetize with targeted and relevant affiliate offers.
4. Make a profit.

Fast forward.

My second website was born in 2019.

All I had to do was reapply what I have learned from Wealthy Affiliate.

Find easy to rank for profitable keywords, write articles, and monetize with affiliate programs related to my new niche.

But these are high-ticket affiliate programs, not the usual ones, as they pay big.

I rewatched the Wealthy Affiliate training videos to refresh the basics, and asked questions in the community when I had them.

Then I was able to build my second site and generate VERY profitable traffic.

I was making lots of commissions just from this one company Called Goldco.

Let's be honest and real here, most people fail in Wealthy Affiliate, but also:

• Most people fail in dropshipping and e-commerce

The thing is, every section you think of, most people fail in it.

We all know that only that 1% of people are the ones winning in every sector.

I was able to find success thanks to their training. Why wouldn't you?

I joined as a total beginner and built a solid business from home, even though English is not my first language.

I also know some guys who just spend time within the Wealthy Affiliate community and live chat, just chatting around.

So it just depends on the individual, really.

The Downsides of Wealthy Affiliate

 (My Honest Criticism After Years Inside)

#1 Kyle & Carson Push You to Promote Wealthy Affiliate

I'm not going to lie, the founders do seem to push Wealthy Affiliate in the training.

But you always have the freedom to choose.

I don't let little things like these affect me.

All I care about is whether I am able to make money with Wealthy Affiliate.

The Wealthy Affiliate training does work, because it teaches you:

1. How to build a website
2. How to find & monetize profitable keywords
3. Drive traffic & make money

The 3 things mentioned above are skills that Wealthy Affiliate teaches you.

And guess what happens if you master those 3 skills?

You can go and make money in any topic because you simply know how to build a website that makes money.

While it's annoying that the founders prefer that you promote Wealthy Affiliate since it's more profitable for them, you have the freedom to choose whatever path you want.

The core training teaches the fundamental skills that you need to dominate any niche.

Period.

#2 Wealthy Affiliate Community itself is a Big Distraction

Wealthy Affiliate is basically like a social media.

The members can post blogs, updates, personal things/

Then there are the live chat features, where I see most people just hanging out and talking about daily life.

While all of this is nice and helpful, if you use it right, it can be a big distraction.

Whenever I log in to my Wealthy Affiliate account, I'm tempted to just chit-chat instead of getting the work done.

I see many members just posting in there instead of working on their businesses.

The Wealthy Affiliate platform is designed to keep you paying the monthly membership fee, so you need to focus on your work rather than socializing on the platform.

I would not say this is a Wealthy Affiliate downside, many times I needed help and had burning questions and found the community helpful.

It just depends on the person, as you need to control yourself and not be easily distracted.

#3 Useless for Advanced Marketers

Wealthy Affiliate is clearly targeting members who have no idea how affiliate marketing works.

In my opinion, this platform is useless for anyone with experience in digital marketing.

But Wealthy Affiliate was never meant for advanced users.

Everything inside is designed for the total newbie.

When I joined WA 9 years ago, I was a complete beginner, and I really enjoyed how everything was laid out clearly.

If you have some experience in the digital world, Wealthy Affiliate may help you brush up on the basics and get well-organized.

But generally speaking is more focused on total newbies

They do have some advanced classes, though, but these are on the high-cost memberships.

No Backlinks Training inside Wealthy Affiliate?

I see a lot of people online, especially on platforms like Reddit, who complain that Wealthy Affiliate does not cover backlinks.

Backlinks are links from other websites to your site.

The more links pointing to your site, the better the search engines will trust it.

While backlinks are very important, they are not covered within the first lessons.

When you start a website, you want to pump up content and publish the legal pages and stuff.

Get your site indexed, then slowly build backlinks.

There are many classes within Wealthy Affiliate that cover backlinks. They are not covered initially, but down the road, as your site grows, there is plenty of content related to backlinks.

Who Should Join Wealthy Affiliate (And Who Should Not)

You should join Wealthy Affiliate ONLY if you are realistic.

You know it takes time and effort to make money.

You are ready to put in real work, be patient, and have a never-give-up mentality.

You should NOT join Wealthy Affiliate

If you think you will be making money in a few weeks or months without effort...

Any program promising you easy riches is more likely a scam.

Most successful people I know they had to work hard day and night to make money.

Wealthy Affiliate Review FAQs (my real experience)

1. Why should you listen to my review

Because I actually used Wealthy Affiliate as a member, not as a spectator. I am not here to sell you dreams. I will tell you what helped, what annoyed me, and what I wish I understood earlier.

2. What is Wealthy Affiliate, in simple words

It is a training platform that teaches you how to build a real affiliate website from zero, pick a niche, write content that ranks, and monetize with affiliate offers, ads, or your own products.

3. Is Wealthy Affiliate legit or is it a scam

It is legit. It is a real product with real training, hosting, and a community. The scam part usually comes from how some people market it, not from the platform itself.

4. Do you have to promote Wealthy Affiliate after you join

No. You can build a site in any niche. Promoting Wealthy Affiliate is optional, not required.

5. Who is Wealthy Affiliate best for

Beginners who want a step by step path, people who like learning by doing, and anyone who wants to build long term organic traffic instead of chasing quick hacks.

6. Who should probably not join

If you want a done for you business, if you hate writing or creating content, or if you want paid ads only right from day one and do not want to learn the basics first.

7. Can you really build a website even if you are not technical

Yes. The website setup is straightforward. The harder part is not the tech, it is staying consistent with content and learning how to target the right keywords.

8. How long does it take to make money with Wealthy Affiliate

It depends on consistency, niche, and how fast you learn keyword research. Some people get a first commission in weeks, many take a few months. If anyone promises you a guaranteed timeline, be careful.

9. What is the biggest mistake new members make

They bounce between strategies, overthink the niche, and keep restarting instead of publishing and improving. Momentum beats perfection.

10. Does Wealthy Affiliate teach SEO or is it outdated

The foundation is SEO focused and that is still the most reliable long term traffic source. Some old classes exist inside the platform, but they are not the core path. The basics that matter still work.

11. Does Wealthy Affiliate teach paid ads

Paid ads are not the main focus early on. The training leans organic first, then you can layer paid traffic later once you know what converts. That is the safe way, otherwise paid ads becomes a money leak.

12. What do you actually get inside

Training, site building tools, hosting options depending on your plan, keyword tools, community support, and live or recorded classes depending on membership level.

13. Is the community actually helpful or is it just hype

In my experience, it is helpful when you ask clear questions and actually implement. Like any community, you will see beginners repeating beginner stuff, but there are real people who know what they are doing.

14. Can you use Wealthy Affiliate for an ecommerce store or services

Yes, but the platform is strongest for content sites and affiliate marketing. If your main goal is Shopify dropshipping or direct response funnels, it will feel like the wrong toolset.

15. Can you build more than one site

Yes. The number depends on your membership tier, but the real question is should you. One focused site usually beats five half built sites.

16. Do they lock you in, or can you leave anytime

You can leave. Your content is yours. If you purchased a domain, you can move it. Hosting is a service, not a prison.

17. Are there upsells

There are higher tiers, but the core training is not chopped into endless paid modules like many guru programs. That was one of the reasons I respected it.

18. What do I personally like most about Wealthy Affiliate

The step by step structure and the focus on building a real asset. No rented audience. A website you own, content you own, traffic you grow.

19. What do I personally dislike or consider a downside

It can feel overwhelming at first because there is a lot inside. Also, if you are the type who needs a strict personal coach pushing you daily, you will still need self discipline.

20. Is Wealthy Affiliate worth it in 2026

If you want to build a long term content business and you will actually publish consistently, yes it can be worth it. If you want quick cash, shortcuts, or zero effort, it will not be worth it.

21. What should you do before paying anything

Start with the free option if available, go through the first lessons, build the starter site, and judge one thing only, are you learning and are you taking action.

22. What is the simplest success plan inside Wealthy Affiliate

Pick one niche you can write about without forcing it, publish consistently, learn keyword research properly, and do not obsess over design early. Traffic first, polish later.

23. Is Wealthy Affiliate a pyramid scheme or MLM

No. There is no downline, no recruitment structure, no getting paid off other people’s work. There is an affiliate program, but that is optional, just like any software company.

24. Will this work outside the make money online niche

Yes. Honestly, it often works better outside that niche because the competition and nonsense is lower.

25. What results can you expect if you actually do the work

You can expect a slow start, then momentum, then real compounding. That is the old school truth of content and SEO. It is not flashy, it is reliable when you stick to it.
