Why I Joined Wealthy Affiliate in the First Place
23 October 2016, that was the exact date when I joined Wealthy Affiliate.
I was a total beginner, with no experience whatsoever in making money online, affiliate marketing, WordPress, or SEO.
I came into Wealthy Affiliate with NO prior experience.
I was a broke naive 21 years old university student trying to make some side income to pay for university and rent.
My parents were very poor as they were drown into their 9-5 jobs as well.
Life was hard and I had to find something that will bring me some extra cash.
I wasted a lot of time with survey apps that pay you to answer basic questions or those get paid to watch videos sites.
I was earning pennies.
Before coming across Wealthy Affiliate, I was interesting into joining an app that pays you to watch music, this youtuber was talking good about it.
I looked up a review about it and realized it was a scam then I was suggested to Join Wealthy Affiliate.
It was free to try so I had nothing to lose and I joined.
What Actually Happens When You Join Wealthy Affiliate
The good thing about Wealthy Affiliate is you can join 100% free without any credit card and try the platform yourself before investing your money.
To be honest with you, if the platform was not free to join back in 2016 I would have never paid to try it out.
So when you join you will be offered a taste of the training.
You get the first lessons that laydown the strategy, if you want more it's going to be 49 usd for the first month for the premium membership.
The free membership includes:
- 1 website
- Phase 1 of the training
- Limited support for a week
- 4,000 AI credits (to use towards their website & content AI tools)
- You will also have access to their AI models, but only the standard versions
- Live chat (where you interact with real members 24\7)
Then there is the 99 usd/month membership, which is called the Premium Plus+
I don't recommend that for you if you are a beginner; you can upgrade to that later down the road, after you grasp the basics, and you want more advanced classes and support.
When you join for free, you will get a taste of all the Wealthy Affiliate features, then you decide if you want to continue or not.
But how are you going to make money, and what does the process look like?
I break that down below in detail, and how things worked out for me during my years in Wealthy Affiliate.
My First Months: The Part Nobody Talks About
Back in the day in 2016, when I first joined Wealthy Affiliate the training structure was a bit different than now.
Then you would be offered 2 types of training:
- Online Entrepreneur Certification Course
- The Bootcamp Course
The first course was about choosing a niche (topic) that you are passionate about, creating a website, optimizing it to get traffic from the search engines and social media, and then monetizing it with ads or affiliate offers.
The second one was the same process, except it was all about promoting Wealthy Affiliate.
To be honest with you, Kyle, the co-founder of Wealthy Affiliate, I would notice him in the training videos trying to push you into promoting Wealthy Affiliate.
That would make sense because if you promote Wealthy Affiliate versus a random affiliate program like Amazon Associates, Kyle and his partner Carson would make more money.
When I joined, I was confused about what I was passionate about, so I decided to follow the bootcamp course, where I would learn how to create a site to promote Wealthy Affiliate.
