How to Start an Online Business Step by Step (Low Budget)

This step by step tutorial is going to show you how to start a thriving online business the best part is everyone can do this, even if you don’t have any knowledge about the internet marketing.

An online business is an opportunity to make lots of money online, but it takes time and lots of hard work to give shape to your website.

You don’t have to own any product or any skills to start your website, all you need is hard work, motivation and some little money to invest.

There are two ways to starting a website; you can do it on your own, or you can join a community where you can learn everything steps by step, from choosing your website niche (topic), finding keywords, writing articles, getting traffic from Google to finally monetize it to earn commissions.

Step 1: Choose a Niche 

A Niche is simply a topic or what your site talks about, there are lots of niches but it will be best to choose a niche from your interests, hobbies, a problem etc.

Anything can be a niche and any niche has an audience.

When you choose a niche you are going to write articles within it, and promote affiliate products within it.

If you choose a niche that you have no interest in, it will be hard to stick to it and produce content with authority.

Just to give you an idea, I choose the make money online niche (this website) because I have tried a lot of money making programs online some worked for me well while others were scams.

Since I am a football player, I’m thinking about starting a new site soon about football boots, because I have tried many and had lots of interest in them.

Another thing that might be a niche for me, is my shy friend, she had confidence issues and was extremely shy and nervous around people, to help her I have done lots of research on Google to give her advice.

Step 2: Build Your Website

Now that you have picked up the main topic of your site, now it’s time to build that website, you need to find a place where you host it a hosting service.

Godaddy and Hostgator are two good options, but I would recommend you to host your website on Wealthy Affiliate because you will save lots of time and money and your business is super protected and backed up daily for you.

There is free and paid hosting since you are thinking about starting an online business you shouldn’t even think about free hosting unless you just want to use it to see how things work.

Wealthy Affiliate offers you 2 free websites as a starter member, those would be great to try thing out.

Now that you have chosen a place to host your website, you will need a domain name for it, again you can have a free or paid domain name.

Again it’s needless to say that you need your OWN domain name, it usually costs a few dollars per year.

Let’s say your niche is football boots, your own domain name should look something like this: Footballboots.com a free domain name would look like this Footballboots.siterubix.com (assuming you have created it with WA)

You need to spend some time to find a domain name that is available since domain names are like girls the one you like is always taken.

If you host your website on Godaddy or Hostgator or any hosting service, you will need to install it on WordPress by yourself or hire someone to do it for you.

Step 3: Writing Keyword Rich Articles

Your website now looks great, at this point,  you need to fill it with quality content, content within the niche you have picked.

Since your niche is something you care about, it will be easy to write articles about it.

Before writing articles, you need to do an extra step which is finding keywords relevant to your niche.

Keywords are simply words that people type into Google to find answers or solutions for their problems.

In order for people to find your articles, you need to target keywords with low competition and a fair amount of traffic.

You should use one keyword per article.

To find keywords you should use a good keyword research tool, Wealthy Affiliate has a great keyword tool included in the premium membership which I use all the time.

A free option is Google Planner but it’s very limited and doesn’t show you enough details you need, but it makes sense since it’s designed for AdWords advertisers.

Keywords with less than 200 competitors and more than 50 of traffic and searches are the ones you need to target.

Once you get familiar with keywords you want to start writing articles about them.

Just use one keyword per post, then do the required research to get the information you need about a particular keyword.

 Step 4: Promoting Your Content and Building Traffic

Traffic is simply visitors or readers without them you can expect to make money, traffic is very important and you should work hard to generate it.

The first thing you want to do is create social media profiles where you share your latest posts.

I recommend you to use Buffer an online tool that automatically shares your latest posts on all your social media networks.

Facebook groups and Google + communities are also good ways to promote your posts.

Remember that you are writing content while targeting keywords that’s a great way to get the best traffic you could get, the organic traffic from Google and other search engines like Yahoo/Bing.

 Step 5: Monetizing Your Website 

You have done an amazing work building your website, writing content and bringing traffic to it.

Now it’s time to monetize your site! 🙂

There are many ways to monetize your website, but I recommend you to go for Affiliate marketing which is absolutely the best and most profitable way to make money by just selling other people’s products.

Remember that you should promote affiliate products that are relevant to your niche, for instance for soccer boots niche I would obviously promote football boots, Amazon has a lot of products you can promote and earn commissions from.

Google AdSense might be a good option for you, you need to place relevant ads and earn from clicks, people make good money with this one too.

But Affiliate marketing remains the best money making method.
