Is Blogging Profitable

Hello! Welcome to my "Is Blogging Profitable?" article!

Most of you probably heard what blogging is before. It might have interested you or not.

However, is it just a simple way of writing? Or is blogging profitable?

I can tell you the answer right away.

Yes!

That's right. Yes, blogging IS profitable. However, you might want to read on because there are hidden harsh truths behind blogging.

In this article, I will answer all of your answers about blogging and reveal other stuff too.

Without any further ado, let's get started!

What is blogging?

Blog

Let's get to know first our main subject here, shall we?

Most of you probably thought that blogging is merely writing and posting on the internet.

Others thought that blogging is just like making a website and putting content into it.

But that's not it.

What is blogging?

Blogging is the action of writing or making a blog. (Well, you don't say.)

What is a blog?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine_optimizationWell, here is a more serious answer.

A blog, short for "weblog", is an online diary, journal or an informational website that aims to share ideas to people around the world.

It is an platform where writers and/or a group of writers, can express their thoughts and ideas.

And with blogging, they can easily share it to the world using the power of the World Wide Web.

Blogs usually contain texts, images, videos and music to be more attractive and to make the user or viewer's experience a lot better.

Furthermore, blog can be made for various purposes.

  • Information
  • Business
  • Entertainment
  • Personal

Also, bloggers can have the option to make their blogs either public or private.

Since most of you tend to confuse a blog with a website and a web page, let me differentiate them in the next section.

Blog vs. Website

You are probably guilty of this, and to be honest, me too.

I have always thought that a blog and a website are the same. But no. They are not.

A blog is just a content that is displayed on a web page of a website.

Actually, there is a confusion regarding them because most of the item, people and businesses tend to use them interchangeably.

Example:

You might have said that you visited a business' or a company's blog when in truth, that blog was only a part of their website you were in.

Another one is that platforms online that are dedicated to helping people create a blog, gives them the impression that they are building a website.

You only have to remember one thing to differentiate them.

A blog receives updates on its contents often. While websites do not update its contents frequently.

Furthermore, blogs often have comment sections wherein readers can socialize or ask questions with the blogger.

Blog vs. Web page

To make it simple, the blog content you make appears on a web page.

Also, a web page is a part of a website (the whole thing).

The word "page" is used to signify or describe the location, as well as the content of the blog.

You should also know that most of the time, a "blog" is used to call a collection of web pages that has several blog contents.

This is true especially to websites that are mainly focused on blogs.

Same thing with what I mentioned above regarding a blog.

Blogs are frequently updated. While web pages do not.

An example of a web page is a page that contains the company background of a website.

Usually, that page do not get updated always.

Is Blogging profitable?

Make money with blogging

If you only want to know the answer to "Is blogging profitable?", then the answer is undoubtedly yes!

Take it from me. I have been blogging for years already and made a fortune out of it.

This one you are reading can be considered a blog!

If you still don't believe me, then let me give you some examples of successful blogs and their earnings.

Successful blogs

How do people make money with blogging?

There are two main ways for you to earn money with blogging: be a blogger for someone else's blog or make your own blog.

There are certain people out there who are seeking for writers who can make content for their blogs.

You can try applying for this one. This is also easier because you will only be writing blogs and then you get paid by your employer.

Most of the time, you won't be doing any technical work. Well, maybe except for SEO stuff. Depends on your employer.

Another way to make money with blogging is to make your own blog. This one takes skill and time.

You have to build it and write at the same time.

Blog as an avenue

This is one thing that many people do not know.

Most of the times, when people think of earning money with blogging, they think that they get paid for writing their own blog.

However, that is not the case.

A blog is not a business but merely an avenue for income sources. What do I mean by this?

You can't simply earn money by just having a blog. You need to involve other things, such as advertisements and affiliate programs.

Advertisements such as Facebook ads, Instagram ads and other companies which would like to advertise in your blog can bring you money.

Another thing is affiliate programs (usually businesses that sells products) which offer you affiliate links and banners that you can put in your blogs.

Whenever people click on those links, and purchase products, you earn a commission.

In fact, if you ask me which is the best way to earn money online, I would always answer affiliate marketing.

It is also great because of the passive income you can earn.

Also, you can use any any affiliate programs that fit the niche of your blog.

If it is about dating, travel sites, MMA or even cars and other more, then sure , why not? There are a lot of affiliate programs for you online.

Harsh truth about blogging

There are two things you need to know if you wish to start blogging.

  1. Blogging is a great way to earn money. It is profitable. I am doing it and those blogs above are proofs that this is true.
  2. Making money with blogging requires a LOT OF WORK AND TIME!

Get all the help you need for your blog here!

The second truth is the main thing that makes a lot of people back out from blogging.

It is not easy to make a a name for yourself in the web. The internet is so wide that it can almost be compared to the universe.

So, if you want to be on the first page of the search results and expose your blogs to the viewers, you will need a lot of work to do.

According to studies, bloggers who are still starting out can make even less than $5.

Remember those successful blogs I listed above?

All of them started around in the early 2000s. All of them took a long time to be where they are right now.

Yes it is true. Blogs can earn you a passive income. But before that, you need to make sure that they attract enough traffic to earn money for you.

That will include the following:

  • Choosing the right niche
  • Building the blog from the bottom to the top
  • Choosing the right design
  • Writing great content
  • SEO work (which is very important)

My only tip for you is to never give up. There are no shortcuts towards success.

Even if we are not talking about blogging, but other ways to earn money. You simply can't grab success immediately.

If you don't notice any traffic going to your blog, don't be discouraged. Use it as a motivation to keep on improving.

Don't worry because in the end, everything will be worth it. Always remember your goals and the reason why you wanted to start blogging in the first place.

Bottom Line

Well there you have it! We have already answered the million-dollar question, "Is blogging profitable?".

Blogging is an excellent way of earning money online. It can be a great source of income that can help you pay the bills.

But before that, you need to work on your blogs and you should be patient.

Blogging is very profitable, if you ask me. I am already speaking as someone who is earning money from blogging.

  • Adrianne, Thank you so much for an honest and informative read on Blogging in 2019! As we go into 2020, I see the same dedication needed to our Blogs as in the past, and an explosive market in the future! The next ten years will bring us more fully into the internet age with the coming of age of my Grandchildren and their full immersion into internet devices. From Googling for information instead of memory study to constant frame change for them, their worldview is changing! Blogging is a sure form of sharing information including ideas quickly. God Bless and Good Luck! Janice ???

    • Hello Janice! Thank you so much for reading my article! I am so glad that you appreciated it and I really agree with you!

  • Hello, Anis.  Thanks for this post.  All you have said here is true but I think the most important thing that one should take away from this is… it takes a lot of work and that means a lot of time, a few hours a day and several months or as much as a year of consistent effort.  I think that’s the one thing that many overlook when they decide they want to be a blogger/Affiliate Marketer. This is especially true of the beginner.  They may already be a writer, (private journaling and such), of some sort but when it comes to blogging and expecting to make money, there is a whole different meaning to the words “Writer/Blogger”  That’s when the work really starts.  Wouldn’t you agree? Also, if one is a newbie to this world of Blogging and Affiliate Marketing, they really should think about finding a good training platform.  There are some good ones out there but, the one you recommend, Wealthy Affiliate, really is the best. They have been in this training business for well over a decade and are always looking for ways to improve it.  There is no other program that I would recommend.  But, of course, that means work and consistency. You’ve talked about a lot of stuff here but I think that’s the most important takeaway.  If one wants to break away from the daily HOHUM of the rat race they must be willing to do the work and the success WILL come.Just my takeaway from this post but I hope others see it as well,Wayne

    • Hello Wayne! Thank you so much for reading my article. I totally agree with you. Affiliate marketing really requires consistency, effort and patience. A training can make things easier too. If you are new, then just choose the best program so that you won’t waste anything. Try out Wealthy Affiliates.

  • With this article of yours, with this blog post of yours, I can definitely say that blogging is profitable! Occasionally, there were pop-ups from Google AdSense coming out, so that means the blogger here which is you, is earning money! I know that because I also have a blog and I make money with Google AdSense with my blog.Just wanna ask something…My cousin is a computer programmer living in Canada. Occasionally, he’s visiting my blog and telling me that I should prefer vlogging over blogging. My reply to him is, I am not comfortable with shooting a video of myself and uploading it to Youtube. But then, I realize he’s correct that I should not neglect video blogging or vlogging.Do you think vlogging has taken over blogging in popularity?

    • Hello Gomer! Thank you for reading my article. Personally, I see them as two different things having their own pros and cons.

However, if you think of popularity, then vlogging should be the one you choose.

Majority of the people nowadays love to watch videos, especially the vlogs in YouTube.

But it all depends on your preferences. Since you are not comfortable with recording videos of yourself, then choose blogging.

  • Wow, I’ve learnt something new! Thanks for pointing out the difference between blogging and a website. I too am guilty of using these two interchangeably, but giving it more thought, it obviously isn’t the same. One thing that I do like about doing your own blogging is the satisfaction of achievement every time I put out a blog post. Maybe I get a dopamine high or something, but I feel a great sense of achievement when I hit publish. It’s very empowering. Making money on them does involve a lot of learning and can take a lot of time depending on the niche. Some niches can be more profitable than others, depending on competition. I love that you mention start from the bottom up, cos it takes time, huge learning curve, patience and persistence. Thanks for an informative and inspirational post.
