The first thing you need to know when learning how affiliate marketing works, are the participating parties.
There are 3 parties that make up affiliate marketing.
- Merchant website (business) - the one who gives the affiliate program and sells the products
- Customer - the one who buys the products
- Affiliate - the one who promotes the products and lead traffic and customers to the merchant website
As an affiliate, how do you promote the products and gain traffic to the merchant website?
Well, first you must have a website. It could be a blog or even a YouTube channel. Affiliate programs will give you links that you can put on your website.
These links will lead to the merchant website. Once a web user clicks on those links and then purchases a product, you get paid.
Don't worry The affiliate program will be able to track your referrals and their purchases. Rest assured that you will be paid.
How much can you earn?
This is what usually people ask me about affiliate marketing.
If you search up on the internet, you can bump into a couple of people claiming that they make a reliable source of income with affiliate marketing.
Well, to be honest, it is true. For those who actually really worked hard.
The amount of commission you earn will greatly differ according to the products you are promoting. That is because different kinds of products have different commission rates.

It doesn't take a set of skills to just put the links on a website or to promote products.
However... the process behind building your website and getting the traffic and referrals are challenging.
What made me say this? For starters, to gather traffic on your website, SEO work must be done.
SEO is the act of optimizing your website in order for you to rank higher in the search engine results page.
An example of a search engine is Google.
You need to remember that you have a lot of competition in the search engine. For example, your website is about toys.
There are other websites out there that are about toys too, right?
With proper SEO, when people search for "toys" in the search engine, your website will appear higher than the others.
If you rank higher, your traffic will be greater. A lot of people can visit your website. Which means that the number of your referrals will be larger.
More referrals means higher chances of earning money!
However, be careful. Because there are practices of SEO which are unacceptable. This is what we call "Black Hat SEO".
Once you are caught by search engines doing it, your website will be penalized or banned.
Another thing, when you have done a great work with your SEO, do not expect that you will be getting traffic immediately.

Treat affiliate marketing as like any other businesses out there. You need to invest effort and time.

Yes it does.
But not immediately.

Remember that there are no shortcuts to success. You have to work your way up there. That's the trick.

Laziness

Well, when you are still starting out, you need to create a lot of articles.
The more articles you have, the more chances of getting referrals.
You need to be consistent in posting articles.
Quick tip: Create a schedule for posting. Google tends to rank your website if you are consist in posting.
If you do want to be successful at it, NEVER BE LAZY.
