What is Mr. Rebates?

Mr. Rebates is a site where you earn cashback from your online shopping.

Instead of shopping directly from your favorite stores you can use Mr. Rebates and still shop at your favorite stores by using the Mr. Rebates affiliate links.

This way Mr. Rebates earns commissions that they are willing to share with you because you used their affiliate links.

This business model is called affiliate marketing and it's exactly how I work from home full-time.

Mr. Rebates is online since 2002; they are honest and legit.

But how does it work? How can you earn extra money with it?

How Does Mr. Rebates Work?

Here is how it works in 4 steps:

1) Grab The Mr. Rebates sign up Bonus

When you sign up for Mr. Rebates, you earn a cool $5 sign up bonus when you make your first purchase and earn cash back from it.

2) Find Your Favorite Stores

Mr. Rebates is connected with over 2,500 stores.

Chances are your favorite store is there.

Amazon, eBay, Best Buy and Target are there along with many other popular stores.

3) Shopping time

Now that you have selected the items you want to buy from your favorite stores, just click the buy button and you will be redirected to the actual store.

---> How much cashback can you earn?

Well, it depends on the store for instance if you buy something from Amazon that costs $70 you get $10 back.

Pretty cool right?

4) Get Paid

Now that you have ordered your items it usually takes 3 to 5 days to see the cash back on your balance.

And when you can see the cashback you can withdraw when you reach $10.

---> How does Mr. Rebates pay you?

You can Cash out when your account reaches $10 you get paid through Paypal, check and gift cards.

You get paid only at the beginning of every month.

If you ask for payment anytime, it will be only processed at the start of the month.

Mr. Rebates Payment Proof

I personally use Mr. Rebates and my experience with it has been good.

I don't make a lot of money from this cashback site but hey it's like free money!

I shop stuff that I need and earn some money back isn't that amazing?

The best part is I don't have to add any extra effort except making sure that Mr.Rebates is tracking my order.

One thing that I didn't like about Mr. Rebates is sometimes I get kinda addicted to using this site.

For example, I'd try to buy something just because it offers a high cashback percentage.

That's definitely not good and you should not fall in this trap because this is the same trap that most cashback users fall into.

Anyway, I managed to control myself and only buy stuff that I actually want to buy and I have received two payments so far from Mr.Rebates.

This is my current cashback balance and soon I'll be able to get another $10 into my Paypal account.

Tips and Tricks to Earn With Mr. Rebates

Here are some tips and tricks to make the most out of this cool cashback site.

1- Play Safe

When you select the items you want to buy, make sure you buy them as soon as you click on the checkout button.

Don't click on any other links until you make your purchase.

Sometimes cashback sites have problems to track orders so play safe.

2- Refer your Friends

Mr. Rebates has a great referral program.

You earn 20% of whatever your referrals earn for life.

If you want to make good use of their referral program, start a website and promote good affiliate programs like this one.

It can be a full-time home business where you can make a living from your passion.

3- No Adblocker

If you have an adblocker, you should remove it as it may cause problems with Mr. Rebates.

4- Install the Mr Rebates Quick Cash Button

Mr Rebates Quick Cash button is a Google Chrome browser extension where you will be reminded to activate cashback when you're browsing online stores.

Let's say you visit the Amazon website without using any links from Mr Rebates, you will probably buy something and forget that you could get a cashback.

I personally did this mistake many times, I'd buy something from Amazon and only after I buy I realize I did not use Mr Rebates!

But when I installed the Mr Rebates browser extension I never missed a single cashback!

With the Mr Rebates browser extension if you visit Amazon you will receive a notification from the extension reminding you that you can get cashback from Amazon.

Here's a demo on how the Mr. Rebates extension reminds you to get cashback (look at the screenshot below)

5- Don't Use other Sites Coupons

Another mistake I used to do is use the other sites coupons when I'm buying a product through the Mr Rebates link.

For example, if I purchase a pair of shoes from the official Nike website, the latter will offer me their own discount coupons to use in the checkout page.

I noticed that when I use the website's own discount coupon or any other coupons that are not from Mr Rebates the purchase will instantly become not eligible for cashback!

So make sure you NEVER use any coupons that are not from Mr.Rebates.

Quick Heads Up!

Some purchases are NOT eligible for cashback.

Below I share with you all the activitives and purchases that won't earn you cashback!

  • Purchases made outside the US & Canada may not be eligible sometimes.
  • Pre-orders will never earn you cashback.
  • If you browse different stores to compare prices sometimes you won't earn cashback for it.
  • If you buy a monthly or yearly subscription membership only the first month/year will earn you cashback.
  • Buying gift cards will never earn you cashback
  • If you buy a product with gift cards you won't get cashback.

Does Mr. Rebates Have a Mobile App?

Yes, Mr Rebates has a very good and easy to use smartphone app that is available for both IOS & Android phones.

The Mr Rebates app allows you to do different things like:

  • Request your Mr Rebates cashback payment.
  • Find online coupons.
  • See your current cashbach balance on the go.
  • The ability to favourite your stores for quick access.
  • Easily shop directly from the app.

Mr. Rebates 2019 Reviews & Concerns

Mr Rebates is a good cashback but there are some things I don't like about it and many other people are complaining about as well.

Below I breakdown for you some of the concerns related to Mr.Rebates.

I Did Not Get My Cashback!

I read complaints all the time about Mr Rebates members angry about not getting cashback sometimes.

I also did not get cashback from some purchases I made in the past.

This is an issue with most rebate sites because their tracking systems and coockies are not always accurate which results in you missing a few cashback opportunities.

Not All Purchases are Eligible for Rebates

Unfortunately not everything you buy through Mr Rebates is going to earn you cashback.

This is especially true with Amazon where a LOT of categories don't offer you any cashback.

I was disappointed one time when I wanted to purchase a $800 laptop from Amazon and it was not eligible!

In order to know which stores and what product categories don't offer cashback simply use the Mr. Rebates search box.

For example, if I want to see which Amazon categories offer rebates I will just type Amazon on the Mr.Rebates search box and I'll be able to see which categories and departments that offer or don't offer cashback.

Amazon categories that don't offer cashback

No In-Store Rebates!

This is no big deal, but with rebate websites like Ebates & Ibotta you can even earn cashback when you shop offline.

Ebates offers in-store cashback while Ibotta allows you to earn cashback from your daily groceries.

What's Better then Rebates? Making Money!

Buy in Bulk? No Rebates for You!

Sometimes you will fill up your shopping cart with different amazing products that you don't want to miss!

Too bad that buying products in bulk 99% of the time if not always won't earn you any cashback.

To work around this problem all you have to do is not buy products in bulk but separately.

International Orders Cashback Problem

Some stores have specific and special policies for orders that are outside the US and Canada.

If you are shopping outside these two countries then you will be missing a few more cashback offers!

My Favourite Store Disappeared!

Mr Rebates is partnered with +2,000 stores but don't be surprised if one of the stores you regularly shop from from desappear.

This happens because some stores will end their partnership with Mr Rebates and get removed from the site.

Sometimes it's Better to Shop without Mr Rebates?

A Mr Rebates member on Reddit says that sometimes shopping from a particular store directly without using Mr Rebates might save you more money.

This guy said that shoebuy.com offered him 20% of discount but when he used the Mr Rebates link the cashback percentage was only 8%.

This is something interesting to keep in mind.

Quick Note!

To get the lowest price possible all you have to do is use the Mr Rebates coupon code so you get the discount and the cashback as well.

Mr.Rebates Reviews on Sitejabber

Before I use any website I love to see it's Sitejabber reviews because there you can read all the reviews the postive ones and the negative ones as well.

By the way, Sitejabber gave Mr. Rebates a good 3 out of 5 rating.

Below you can read some of the postive and negative Mr.Rebates reviews.

Who is Mr. Rebates For?

Mr.Rebates is for you if:

Mr. Rebates Vs Ebates

Ebates and Mr. Rebates are similar cashback sites.

But they have a few different features; sometimes people are confused about whether they should go for this one or the other.

The most notable differences are that Ebates pays every three months and Mr. Rebates pays you at the beginning of every month.

Another difference is Ebates allows you to earn cash back even when you shop offline, that's not possible at the moment at Mr. Rebates.

But both of them offer cash back in only a few categories, so I recommend you to go for both.

If I want to buy a product on Ebates that product may be eligible for cash back, while not eligible for Mr. Rebates and vice versa.

But Mr. Rebates and Ebates are not the only cashback sites out there.

There are way more than you think.

The most popular ones are:

  1. BeFrugal
  2. Shop Smarter
  3. ExtraBux
  4. Evreward
  5. Shopathome
  6. Ibotta
  7. Trunited
  8. Earny

 Which one should go for?

I prefer and love Ibotta and Ebates because they offer high rebates on my favorite stores.

How can you find your perfect cashback sites?

Let Cashbackholic or Cashback monitor give you a hand.

Just type your favorite store on one of those sites, they will show you which cashback site offers higher rebates on particular products.

It also shows you which categories and products are eligible for cash back.

Very useful!

This is what I liked and disliked about Mr. Rebates.

The Good

  • Associated with over 2,500 stores.
  • Legit and Trustworthy
  • Good BBB A+ rating (Better Business Bureau)
  • Up to 25% to 30% cash back on purchases
  • Good referral program (earn 20% of referral earnings for life)
  • Different payment methods (PayPal, check and Gift Cards)

The Bad

  • Some people complain about not receiving cashback.
  • Cashback is available for a few categories of most stores
  • Sometimes it takes up to 90 for your cashback to be approved and sent to your account.

Final Review - Is Mr. Rebates a Scam?

Mr. Rebates is not a scam they are way far than that; they are totally legit, I love using Mr. Rebates when shopping online!

However, I personally prefer Ibotta and Ebates for the reasons I have stated above.

Swagbucks has a good cashback service as well, but I don't use it.

If you want to give Mr. Rebates a try, then do it and grab your $5 sign up bonus today.

You can always use services like Cashbackholic and cashback Monitor to see which cashback site offers the highest rebates for the products and stores you are particularly interested in.

  • I’ve heard of other cashback sites such as ebates and nerdwallet. How does Mr. Rebates measure up to those? I also buy mostly health products (supplements), pet supplies and office products from Amazon. Which categories would that fall into? I didn’t see Health, office supplies or pets listed in either of the images provided for Cashback and Non-Cashback.

  • Great and thorough review!

I personally think that, if you’re going to buy something anyway..you may as well get cash back for it. The signup process seems pretty simple, and it definitely seems reliable as well.

I gained a lot of valuable information from this review, and now I don’t have to go do the hours of research myself!

Thank you for your honesty and for providing great info!

  • Hi Anis, I did not hear of this interesting system of earning money. It really is attracting me. I cannot avail its cashback opportunity but I can get its referral program for sure. Thanks

  • Hi Anis,
I’d never heard of this until I read the review. I’m definitely going to check Ebates out.
Nicely put together site and the article gave me a clear picture of the differences. The rewards sounds pretty cool.

  • An interesting, well researched article. I assume that these cash back schemes are similar in nature to the Cashback Club here in Australia? I am a bit confused with your “the bad ‘ comments about Mr Rebates where you state it can take ‘up to 90 days for your cashback to be approved and sent to your account’ and yet further above in the article you mention ‘Mr. Rebates pays you at the beginning of every month’ Can you elaborate on this apparent contradiction?

    • Hi James, sorry for the confusion, let me explain, most stores allow more than 60 days for exchanges or returns, therefore the stores can’t pay Mr. Rebates, that’s it may take up to 90 days to have your cash back in your account, when Mr. Rebates gets the money from the store then the will pay you.

When you have the cashback you can get it out of your account only at the beginning of every month.

Hope this made things a little bit clear, thank you.

  • Great article. It’s good to finally find an honest review on Mr Rebates. The 20% referral earning for life seems pretty cool. Probably gonna try it out soon. Thank You very much.

  • Haven’t heard of Mr. Rebates before reading this post. First, what I don’t like about Mr. Rebates is you have to wait 90 days to get cashback. That seems like a lot of time to wait. I know a lot of affiliate programs that will pay you bi-weekly or monthly.

Does Mr. Rebates offer an incentive where you can get paid out sooner than 90 days, though?

  • Another great review thank you. I have used Swagbucks and Ebates in the past and found them very good. I will give this one a try also. Good job!

  • Thanks for the review. Mr rebate sounds like a cool site, wanted to read a review in it first to see what it was though. Now I am off to try it 🙂

    Thanks again

    /John

  • Hi,
Thanks for sharing your list of rebate sites. I personally used Ebates before, but I will consider Mr rebates, especially since they pay in the beginning of the month as supposed to every 3 months. I’ll follow your advice and choose which ever depending on what stores I am shopping, cheers.

  • I think E-bates wins with me. They offer you the opportunity to step off line and receive a benefit as well. I never been exposed to this kind of thing. I often wonder in these conditions do you actually receive what you are promised. But that is not to say it doesn’t work. thanks for the information. How long have have you been using them?

  • Hi Anis, thank you for sharing your review on Mr Rebates. Before I got to the bottom I was actually going to ask you what the difference is between this and Ebates, but I’ve got my answer now.

I also noticed that you mention you can earn with ebates online and offline, but how does it work when you shop offline? Do you need an app or something?

Thanks, and look forward to your reply.

    • Hi Stephanie, Ebates introduced a cool feature called In-store cashback which allows you to earn cash back offline, all you have to do is find the products you want then link the offers to your credit card and go shop offline 🙂

  • I had never even heard of sites like this until I read your review. Sounds pretty stellar and I’m thinking of trying it out. Do you always use a site like this when you do your online shopping? Thanks
